Rob, Matt Ely in Bozeman. What are your approx dates? Montana becomes a tourist area in the summer, and some areas can get relatively busy. Yellowstone really takes two days to get an idea of what is there, and to deal with the traffic. Bozeman, to glacier is six hours by car - I would go north on I90, cut of at Avon, then north through the Swan Valley. You will feel you have gone back in time 50 years.
Then to Big Fork, and on to West Glacier. Glacier has one road through it, and you should spend a day on it. Two Medicine Lake is a spur from the East side, as is Many Glacier. Both are spectacular if the weather is good - i was there in 2008, and last snow with road closures was June 8; first snow was Aug 17. There is some lodging in these parks, but relatively expensive. Outside there are some nicer places, and some places you can step back in time. Going north towards Alberta, there is an incredible steak house in Babb Montana. You need to know times for the border crossing - it is not open 24 hours. Waterton park on the Canada side is probably more spectacular than Glacier. I haven't been to Banff for years, but it is really unbelievable up there. Glacier has a Red Bus service where they take you through the main road with a guided tour - I believe it is worth it, as you have a tour guide, and all of you can enjoy the views. The driver through Glacier gets a white knuckle experience. For other Montana ideas, get on the website visitmt.com - there are a lot of ideas there - I filmed a lot of the content. Let me know if I can be of assistance - Matt, elyoneone@yahoo.com
