GregMT and wheel adapters.

That brought up a thought I had a while back. Since the 8-lug Dana pattern is smaller than the original 5-lug PW pattern, couldn't a person just make a set of adapters and use original PW wheels? Does anyone know the difference in center hub diameters? It can't be THAT much. Plus, I still don't understand why one couldn't just get a set of custom axles, use late Dana discs (redrilled or drilled blank rotors), and use the original Budd or whatever wheels. Have I missed something somewhere?
