I hear you, Proto, Matco, Mac...they're all great but the problem is once one goes...they all go.
The Snap On stuff has actually been going downhill for years...& it's small stuff. Stuff they could easily fix because most seems like quality control related issues. I bought a 1/4" drive socket set & it was almost $400! Within 1 week, the tiny screws that hold the ratchet together, one had fallen out & one almost fallen out.
What up with that?
Then the gear in the ratchet stripped a couple weeks later but I've been known to crank a wee bit hard on the little 1/4" ratchet so I'll let that one slide :) :)
