4 wheel drive won't engage on my '01

We had our first real snow so we had to plow it. I pulled my shifter back for 4 wheel drive and it wouldn't engage. No light on the dash, nothing. This is an 01 3500 with a Cummins and 6 speed. I had a vacuum plug come off that controlled my heater which was fixed after a new cap was installed. I'm thinking this is a CAD operated axle so could I have a bad vacuum here also? The missing cap was just under the leading edge of the cowl. Glad I at least had limited slip this morning.
