Pager goes off a 5am for a confirmed house fire in S. Cle Elum about 5 miles away. I go outside to find 5-7" of new snow and it's still snowing hard. Only vehicle that is'nt covered and frozen is the '53 Power Wagon in the shop. I open the shop door and head out to the fire station. My volunteer station is about 1/2 way between my house and where the fire is. The snow drifts are axle high but I bash right through them with the 1100-16 XZL's and the transfer case whining in highrange, 3rd gear.
On my radio I hear that the engine is full of firefighters and responding so I'm going to the fire in the Power Wagon. I stop at the station to grab my gear. At this point visibility is down to feet, and I'm wishing for headlights like Keith Klosterman has on his Carryall, but I can still see the orange glow in the distance from the house that's burning to the ground.
I get down to the fire. The fire engine is up at the house, calling for a hydrant. I park the power wagon near a hydrant grab a shovel off the pioneer tool kit and start digging the hydrant out of the snowbank.
I wont bore you with the details of the fire as it's completely unrelated to Power Wagon stuff, but when I got home, it was surreal to see that the mail lady had left me a box of oranges from my Dad who lives in sunny 74 degree Florida.
