I don't think a hose clamp would last for one trip through the creek on those springs, but maybe a U-bolt would work. With the rivet, what I can't figure is how the back side of the rivet is set since it only goes through one leaf,unless they set it when they're assembling the pack and then slide the rest of the leaves in behind it. I really don't want to take the whole spring pack off of that 5-ton, so that leaves either a U-bolt or welding to the stud. Since the original rivet broke clean off, I suspect any weld would break off too, since there's no way to make it as strong as the original steel. In lieu of a finding a proper-sized U-bolt, maybe I could use two pieces of bar stock and two pieces of all-thread as a field expedient.
