I dont agree with that theory. maybe he just thought that because if you got a tcase out of a truck from 1960 or newer, it would not have as many miles on it. Of course a tcase or diff from 1949 is most likely going to be not as good as one from 1965. jsut shear time of wear and tear pulling fords out. I have read what many of the parts of these trucks are made of and was always very high quality stuff. I had to straighten a winch angle piece on one 1943 WC52 and it took a 50 ton press to do the job. I tried to straighten a bumperette on a WC53 with a rose bud torch tip and a sledge hammer and it didn't move at all. metal better? no way. in fact by the mid 60s the bean counters had already started to have an affect on some things like GM engine blocks starting in about 1965 start to decline in the amount of nickel they contained.
