A year or two before this photo was taken, Gene Buch, Bill Wolfe, Jack Garner, Bill Garland and I all got together and built a teeterboard at Gene's farm outside of Fairfield Iowa during Rally week. We used some old bridge girders and mobile home axles that Gene had laying around the farm. For several years prior, at the Rally meetings, Gene and I had been tossing around the idea of creating the teeter board for use during the Saturday afternoor truck games that had been taking place on the last day of the Rally for several years. We started cutting and welding on a Tuesday or Wednesday and had the teeterboard completed in time to test and use it that Saturday. It was used for about 10-years straight at the annual Rallys in Fairfield and provided a great amount of entertainment - even appearing one year at the town square - right in the middle of the blocked off street for the town's people to enjoy.

A couple of years later, Gene got the idea to "pimp out" his Power Wagon for the festivities. He again invited Bill Wolfe, Bill Garland, and I to get involved and we happily abliged, along with Todd Somers. While the rest of the Rally attendees were enjoying different events in and around town, the five of us broke out the cutting torch, welder, and chop saw and again had the time of our lives thinking up ways to make Gene's truck "just right". What you see in the image is the product of our efforts, but it was all Gene's idea. He actually drove it on the road that way. First, as a test to make sure it was actually drivable, and later the several miles from his farm to town and during the Saturday morning parade.

You had to know Gene. He made us all feel like kids again.
