The Goodyear Combat Rim did not require a flap with the use of the beadlock. And since the beadlock was always intended to be used, there is no requirement for a flap and no proper procedure for the installation and use of a flap in a combat rim.

Anyone considering using the beadlock would need a tire with the same bead width as the original combat tire. The combat tire also required a combat tube that was smaller in diameter due to a thicker walled tire, and thicker in thickness than the conventional tube. If you did find a tire that met specs, and if you wanted to use the beadlock, using a flap would be a good thing. Use standard procedures for installing a tube/flap. Don’t mix radial/nylon parts, stay with same.

1. Install the tube in an unmounted tire
2. To take out folds in the tube and ensure proper shape, inflate the tube with air enough to shape the tube in the tire, and then release the air
3. Inspect flap’s stem hole for off-set and install off-set towards outer side.
4. Slip flap over valve stem and work both sides of flap in over tube moving around tire.
5. Inflate tube to shape tube/flap, release air.
6. Using you hand, grasp flap and slide your hand around flap feeling for any folds and reshape if found.
7. Slide tire assembly over rim.
8. Continue assembly of the unit.
