Please keep posting on your progress, with pictures if possible.
I'm embarking on something similar--an expedition vehicle based on a 1971 W200 crew cab. Mine came with a flat bed, but that's going to come off, to be replaced with a custom box.
But first, getting it running and getting it safe. Then the build out.
