The late model 12v P pump engines are good engines, but they are also the most sought after and command the highest price. Why, the performance potential these engines have over the earlier and later models, and a limited run. You don't see any common rail or VE pump engines in the super modified class truck pulling competitions, or diesel drags. So for the sake of economics, ease of swap and availability I would look for a ve pump engine.
