Keith's suggestion is worth thinking about.

Every major manufacturere who ever put a third door on a truck or station wagon eventually added a fourth door on later models. Three doors may be better than two, but not as good as four.

Four doors would also eliminate the troubling question of which side to put the third door. In the old days (from Model T's to 1972 Suburbans) the third door would have been on the curb side. That might have made sense back when people parked on the curb, but it's less practical today. I drive a crew cab everyday, and use the rear door on the driver side almost as much as the front door for throwing junk in the back seat. Without a rear door on the passenger side, I might as well not have a back seat to throw stuff.
