Charging an Import tax isn't extortion...it's collecting the tax that the government would otherwise be collecting if these items were produced here through sales taxes, income taxes, etc. Do you think these countries pay for the benefits that businesses here are forced to pay?
Someone has to pay for this country to run Glen. If every item was manufactured abroad & none of us worked because there were no jobs left here...who'd pay for everything?
You're strategy works so long as you're happy with your children working at 7/11 or Walmart...because I'm not sure which industry you think can compete with these countries. Manufacturing is getting pounded in the US & it's gonna get much worse. The less produced here, the worse the economy will get...period.
Oh I know...we all like to have this fantasy that there will always be stuff manufactured here because we're smarter...think again. The reason items from Asia are poor quality is because we've showed them North America wants cheap...not good quality.
Oh sure...we'll still need Lawyers, Doctors etc...but who will have the money to pay them?
This is just the tip of the iceberg here.
