I apologize for the off topic post, but you are my friends, and sometimes a man needs to reach out to his friends for support and sympathy. Here is my message to the one company in the US (Navteq) who supply all those map data that you encounter when searching online for the nearest Home Depot or similar search:

"When searching for a store or other location withing 25, 50, etc. miles of ZIP 11964, not only am I directed to proper locations within Suffolk County (NY), but I am also directed to stores in CT. To get to CT I must either drive 100 miles, to a point where Long Island is closest by road to CT, or I must take a car ferry, at a cost of $80 and a time interval of 1 hour and 45 minutes, each way. Is there a way for your data base to be adjusted to avoid listing CT locations when we in 11964 and adjacent Long Island ZIP codes search for Long Island locations?"
