I had a friend who was into the hit and miss engines and before he passed away, I had helped him sell a few at a local shows. He wasn't there to sell them with me, more of get the best price you can deal. One of his old International LB engines "not hitnmiss I know" was for sale and an offer came up that was lower than fair, but an offer. The potential buyer was smug, and telling me it was only good for parts ect, ect.... In the end, I didn't want to hear him try and haggle the price down and told him I had already sold it.
By the end of the show, I started to regret turning down the offer, as it was time to pack it all back up in the truck. Just about the time I went to grab it to load, a young guy and his 6 year old son came buy and started talking with me about the engine. Sounding defeated, the father asked if it was sold already as the sign was gone. Seems they had left the show grounds to run home and hit the piggybank. I wound up selling that engine to them at a price that was lower than the first one earlier, but the boy was all over the engine the entire time.
When I went back to my buddy, I had expected to pick up the loss I created, but after hearing the story, he said it would have been fine to give it to them for free.

Better to give it away than toss it in the landfill, as long as it goes to those who would use and enjoy it.
