Hi Gary,
The hood handles were added in the field, A MWO. I do not think they all got them, I know many Army trucks and many Marine Corp trucks got them. I have one on my Air Force truck, but thats because my hood came from an army truck! I do not know if the Air Force put the handles on or not.
The small latch receiver on the side of the hood is for the latch I mentioned at the top of the passenger side windshield to hold the hood in the wide open position.
I overlooked the fact thet your picture has a hard top. My truck has canvas, so add that to my list!
Will mentions he thinks the gas can holders were optional, I dont know for sure, but I was under the impression that they all had them.
