I had the same problem, and decided on a change. My truck is not completely original, and never will be. It has a Plymouth flathead engine, for one thing. I had an old Franz oil filter canister laying around and decided to plumb it into the system, instead of the original filter. It does the same job, maybe better, and 2 ply toilet paper is pretty easy to come by.
