all Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth/Desoto flathead engines HAVE hardened valve seats from the factory since about 1933. there was little to no lead in fuel until after WW2. Special valves were also available for extreme duty applications. I have had a few cracked valves on old faltheads I have rebuilt but never had any crack on me in my trucks. And I have rebuilt quite a few of these engines and never had to replace any of the hardened seats. I have a box of them brand new sitting in my tool box for over 10 years. it cant hurt to run some Bardahl instead O'lead once and a while. ON the next one I might seek out some of the heavy duty valves. but even with stock valves and runngin the additives occasionally you should be fine. Napa can order the Bardahl product. Also works as an octane booster.
