m37 pintle hitches

Are there different versions? Early/late? M37 vs M37B1? My early hitch was modified into a tractor drawbar hitch pin style. I acquired an "m37" pintle hitch but the shaft is a smaller diameter and the tailgate center hinge prevents the hitch from completely opening which prevents the lunette from going into the hitch.
