The one problem with running at higher temperatures on the engines, is per-detonation. The engine needs to run cool enough so the fuel/air charge doesn't pre-ignite and cause the loose of power.

With today's direct injection this is less of an issue as the fuel can be injected closer to the firing point but you still need to inject it early enough to mix properly with out pre-igniting.

The most efficient engines turns all fuel into mechanical power, with no excess heat to have to dissipate.

Radiator size is critical for efficient operation. Put too large of a radiator on and the engine will be getting too cold of a water charge and cost power. Too small and the engine will overheat.

Don't PW's have a 180 deg thermostat?
What thermostat does a new engine have.?
