It's a touchy topic, and not much to do with Dodge. All the "alternative" treatments are supported by stories of somebody who got cured. The stories always sound great, but I've never met anyone who's actually cured themselves that way. I've had two friends who went the alternative route and died, many who went the conventional route and died, and a couple who went the conventional route, were sicker than a dog for a while, and ended up as cured as any cancer doctor is willing to say.

The thing is cancer is a very tricky disease. Once in a while it goes away on its own and naturally people are quick to credit whatever they were doing at the time be it macrobiotic diet, oxygen therapy, or praying to Jesus. Nobody really knows. Even with the conventional treatment, what might work great for one person doesn't do a thing for another. It's not like taking penicillin.

The bottom line for me is people who get cancer are usually soon overwhelmed by well-meaning friends showing them "sure cures" that they found on the Internet or read about somewhere. Some get pushy to the point of being angry at the for not trying it, or for going for "toxic" conventional treatments. This sort of thing does a friend no good at all. What a person diagnosed with cancer needs is a friend to say, "What can I do to help you?", and then do it. What they don't need is somebody telling them that if only they would go to some Mexican clinic, or change their diet, or think more positively, they'd be cured. What they also don't need is someone saying, "I didn't think you were the kind of person who would get cancer."

I'm not saying the alternative stuff might not work for some people, or that positive thinking or praying might not do some good. I just haven't seen it myself, and it seems like if it was really consistently good, the word would have gotten out and everybody would be doing it. I don't buy the conspiracy theories either. Cancer's a hell of a disease any way you figure it.
