Mike,

To Galvanize a cab, frame and components is a bad move, All sharp edges will have to be ground to a minimum 1/8" radius or galvanizing will crack along the edge and flake off. All parts will have to be sandblasted to 1-2 mil anchor profile, bad for sheetmetal under 1/8" thick, dipped in hydrocloric acid wash, dipped in molten 500-750 degree zinc and drained. All crevaces that will possiably hold molten zinc would have to be drilled to allow excessive drained off with a minimum 3/8" hole or, it will harden in the area and is next to impossiable to remove.

The fun begins then, all burrs, dross, drips will have to be ground / filed off, in addition the galvanizers will not guarantee that components will not warp out of shape. also the galvanizer does not guarantee the thickness of coating he will only state the amount of zinc used in ounces (components weighed before and after galvanizing).

Prior to application of paint you will have to sugarblast to obtain a 1-1-1/2 mil anchor profile, wash with muriatic acid and coat with a paint that is designed for galvanized surfaces like International Interguard 440H or 265 (BIG BUCKS) $200.00 a gallon and then apply what ever color coat you want to use as long as it is compatiable with the Interguard coating.

In my humble opinion, it is not worth it. Use a Zinc rich primer two part system liquid suspension, Part "A" and zinc dust Part "B" that will have to be mixed and agitated during application, such as interguard 11 $100.00 a gallon or just use phosphate coating and whatever primer / top coat you want to use.

I work in the offshore drilling industry and this is what is specified to combat the elements on all new construction.
