Output of a compressor is going to be a curve of pressure vs volume. The higher the pump has to increase the pressure the lower the volume of air it will move for a few reasons.

You won't get more CFM out of the compressor by changing the set point, you will change the running characteristics though. If it takes your compressor 3 minutes to go from turn-on pressure to 150 psi, and another 3 minutes to go from 150 to 175 you may be better served by dropping the shut-off pressure to 150 to reduce the strain and run time of the compressor (assuming it can keep up with your demand and you don't need the higher pressure).

My compressor is set to turn on at 110 and off at 150, since most of my tools run at 90 psi or less I always have sufficent pressure and the pump doesn't work so hard trying to recover as if it were set at 175.
