I thought it was $.20/l, not /gal? Either way it's cheap compared to here. Why not give it a try? The worst that will happen is it'll eat the rubber, which you'd need to replace anyway for use with modern gas. The original 4-cylinder Fords ran on ethanol, as Henry Ford didn't have much faith in the oil industry being able to produce enough gasoline for all the cars that would soon be on the road. I'm not sure how methanol compares to ethanol in combustion performance, but the worst that could happen is the engine would stall and you'd have to dump the alky from the carb and tank and put gas back in and crank a while to get it running. According to Wiki, methanol eats aluminum, so there might be long-term damage to the carb and fuel pump. Short term, just to see if it would run, I don't think it would hurt them. Or maybe the pot metal in the pump and carb is mostly zinc and it wouldn't hurt them. Somebody needs to do the experiment and it might as well be you.
