Spent Monday working on Joel Folman's new GINORMOUS Power Wagon stable. Made the drive home in 2 days, 650 miles each way, which is doable in a day but have been having a bunch of trouble with a knee and cant do the long hauls like I used to. (it sucks getting older!)
Over the years, I have been curious about, and have asked numerous people, what it was like to get a flat tire on your trailer while hauling a Power Wagon. I found out today. The answer, at least in my case is, nothing! I arrived home today, went into the house to say hello to my Wife, and then came out to take the truck off the trailer. I walked around to the passenger side and just about dropped my dentures. The passenger side front trailer tire was just GONE! the rim was there and about an inch of rubber around the rim on both sides, and nothing else. When ever I stop, I always make a circuit around the trailer, and put my hand on both the tires and the hubs, and give a tug on the binder chains. I keep my side mirrors angled down slightly so I can see the tires. I never felt a thing, never heard a thing, and never saw any flailing or airborne rubber. And the trailer certainly didnt tow or feel any different. I had just put 2 new tires on the rear axle, and I am glad I had a new one on the back to carry the extra load. I suspect if the second one had gone I would surely have noticed that! Whew.
Lastly, Just to add to what the other attenders of the West Va Rally have said, it was an incredible time. I am at a complete loss as to why there were only 8 trucks attending. I have no idea how many people are on this Forum, and Gordon's Forum, and of course a lot of people live long distances away, but we all make such a big deal about owning these trucks, and using them, here was a great chance to get out and actually use them, see a beautiful place and hang with other like minded folks, yet, a tiny fraction of us actually did this. I am baffled.
Good to be home,
Tim
