Jason, one thing I've not seen anyone mention is ceiling height. My garage started as a pole shed, 24w x 32deep. The poles were discarded utility poles from the power company--nine total--two bays, 12'wide each and 32' deep. Only one was used in the center to support my center beams. Over the years I later poured a 5" concrete floor, studded the walls with local rough sawn 2x4s. 'Had a commercial roll-up doors installed. Sided it with used tin covering 1" styrofoam. No moisture problems now.
One big regret!! When I installed a lift I realized it should have had 14' ceiling. Every time I go up with the lift, I have to watch it or I'll push my hood against the 10' center beam or the cab top through the roof.
Even if a lift is not in your budget now, one day you'll find one and you should not have to sweat it like I do. Fourteen will be the minimum if I ever do it again!
