You can always upgrade exterior of the wood building down the road vice continued maintenance. Put vinyl siding on it, wrap trim with aluminum, etc. as your budget allows.
For a shop where I'd want to mount things to the walls and have insulation I tend to lean toward wood, for size and speed where looks aren't as big an issue I'd probably go toward metal.
