Jim, you must be on the wrong forum asking for experts like that. You are the beat expert out there and I think you have it figured. If the inner housing seal is shot it will leak where you describe the leak. I know it is untidy to have the leak but it will take along time to lower the differential oil enough to hurt you. enjoy driving it until you decide to park long enough to replace the seal and bushings.
