Check for spark by disconnecting a plug wire, hold it near some metal, like the block, and crank. Ought to make a big blue spark.

But since you didn't mention any electrical stuff, I figure you are unfamiliar with points. They are a switch, between coil and ground. Coil sparks when points open. Need about an .018" gap when full open. About the thickness of a match book cover. Wider will start but not rev, closer will rev but not start. And the rubbing block wears against the distributor lobes, so as they age they get a smaller gap, and harder to start. And they will get dirt or corrosion between the contacts. A little file works, it's called a 'point file', about like a fingernail file. Sand paper works too, but can leave grits behind, that insulate. So, file/clean, and reset the gap at the peak of a lobe. Oh, remove the rotor for better access, but do remember to put it back in, It only goes on one way, don't be shy.
