2 years ago this time we had a very hard freeze with temps down to zero at night several nights in a row the first week of October. The brush on the hillsides had barely started to turn color and it froze all the leaves brown right on thee bushes. There was no snow on the ground and it stayed cold long enough that some people's water lines froze, this being a place where we're used to it getting pretty cold, but usually there's snow by then. So far we haven't even had a hard frost yet, so we're getting off easy.
