True, but fortunately, one can not lock themselves out. If you try to lock an open passenger door from the inside handle, and then shut the door, it automatically unlocks itself. You HAVE to use the key from the outside to lock the door when YOU are outside the truck. But you are correct, dogs, children, passengers can all lock the doors from the inside.

This may be the reason why the handles attached pointing downward. If incorrectly installed/positioned to point forward towards the dash, it would be very easy for a child or dog to lean/step on the handle and lock the door. With them hanging/pointing straight down like they came from the factory, it is a little harder for someone inside the vehicle to accidently lock the doors.
