I am working on my winch and noticed I have a loose retaining ring on the winch shaft between the housing and the sliding clutch. I looked at another MU2 and it seems the worm gear key is supposed to be hard against the ring. Mine keys are about 3/8" away from the housing causing the ring to be loose but there is no cut in the shaft below in the 3/8" gap. Should the shaft be cut? Could the keys be installed backwards? I also do not have a retaining ring between the sliding clutch and the drum. Is it needed and how is it held in place?
