Thanks for the referral to Yestrday's Tractor hauling schedule. Two guys called. First guy was real nice. Warned me not to pay deposit to scammers. Asked me what I expected to pay. I said $1.50 to $2.00 a loaded mile. His quote was $2,500 for 770 miles because he would have to make a special trip. No way I can pay that. Second guy calls. I tell him $770 miles. He does some calculations. His quote is around $700. He will be in the area next week so it's on his route. Seems cheap but sounds legit.
Here's the question: What should I ask for and can I expect in way of a reference or proof that he is a legitimate hauler? I could not find any way to check references on the YT website. Last thing I want is some stranger showing up and driving away with my truck never to be seen again. I was thinking business license number and vehicle license number. When he shows up, I can have the seller verify both when he arrivves and call me before letting him in the gate.
