So many modern cars are SO easy to drive that anyone can drive them with very little attention being paid to what they are doing. The average little econobox can cruise at 90-100 mph (or until the fuel shut-off kicks in) with as much stability as a 5.0 Mustang of not too many years ago. This allows way too many drivers to go faster than intended with only minimal concentration. This is often only 30-50 mph if the concentration is not there. Additionally most cars only require "gas & steer" futher dropping the attention level to the point that "...all of a sudden..." something happens. Very rarely should anything happen "all of a sudden". What this really says is "I was not paying attention to what was going on around me!!!"

Some 40,000 people DIE each year from auto accidents in the US and the largest percentage of these accidents are "driver error". If anything else killed 40,00 people a year the country would be in an uproar. But in order not to offend anyone or take away anyones "right" ( priveledge?) to drive we blame it on the automaker, tire maker, gaurdrail, anything but the driver. Professional Driver Training is readily available all across the country for the cost of the first deductible but yet so few take advantage of the opportunity.
Thanks for letting me vent as well.
Jim
