I don't know about first year of full syncro but the NP 420 equipt PW's came out in 1957. Unlike the early "Crashbox" Spurgear NP trannies the 420 only had a spur gear in 1st and reverse, the rest of the gears were helical and 3rd & 4th gear were syncro'ed. the crashbox had offset boltup flanges and the 420 had squared ones, so you'd have to change out the bell housing from the later truck and I believe you will also have to use the later cab floor tranny cover as the shifter tree was different. I know you asked for info for a direct boltup (full sync) but if that doesn't pan out this would be a good alternate.
Best regards
