I went through a 1967 Dodge manual for my charger and it looks like a rear clutch 727 problem. Since the transmission shifts from p-n-r and the linkage looks good there is probably some type of engagement (hydraulic or mechanical) problem. TF fluid looked good.

Thanks Anthony, Chad, Allen, and Tom J for all the good information. I was surprised I was almost a page down the forum allready.

Tom J is right if I am able to go in reverse fine it would not be a transfer case problem on a full time 4wd. With 35's and fulltime 4wd and some highway speeds a clutch won't last long. Even a 727's. I'll look for a heavier forward drive clutch and a tranny rebuild.
A 4-speed manual and heavy clutch would also alleviate the problem.

Sorry for not being a true W300 PW guy.
Maybe a W300, Cummins I-6 turbo, and 40"s.
