Personally I think DC should build the truck on the bottom. With perhaps a smaller ~4L six cyl diesel, a 6 or 7 spd, a NP205, solid axles (Dana60/70 or 60/80) and leaf springs, PS and disk brakes.
Putting midrange 6-7L diesels with 5-800 ft-lb torque is really overkill unless one plans to tow a 15-20,000 lb trailer. Which is unsafe with a 6-8000 lb vehicle. I wish they'd try a smaller motor with a transmission with very close splits, at least a 6 spd, maybe 7 or 8 or even 10. It's be a blast to drive a Power Wagon with a mini road Ranger, like an overdrive version of the single countershaft RT6609A 9 spd. That doesn't weigh any more and isn't any bigger than the NV5600.
