Well, last Saturday Richard D. from Birmingham and I replaced the front wheel cylinders in my Danish WM300. Some points of interest were as follows.

> If everyone is not aware of it when you take out the screws holding the drums on you put them back into the non inleted screw holes and tighten them up. This does a nifty job of backing off the drums without all that dusty and loud banging with a "big" ball peen hammer.

> The bottom of each brake shoe comes off of a backing plate stud. Behind that is a metal washer then a felt washer. Do not damage or tear that felt washer. They are supposed to be pretty hard to get. You can clean it up and coat it with a good silicone grease to replace. When you put the shoes back on, a final horseshoe clip goes on the stud to hold the shoe on and a little arrow shows you which way they want you to put it back on.

> It's a pretty good idea to degrease and clean up the backing plate and coat with some cheap gloss black spray paint. They tend to get pretty rusty.

> Some beer floating in an ice chest helps move the job along.

> In the final moments we tightened the lug bolts in a cris-cross pattern, checked for leaks, fired up the old 251, and let Richard pilot the warhorse. Rich smoothly shifted the syncronized 4-speed transmission, and roared up the block.

"Al he said you got to really hit these brakes cause they are known to be bad."

Screech, smell of burning rubber...vision of the windshield rushing at me..Damn these brakes work good.
