Greg, not so difficult when you do it right and it's not all rusted together, well done. I always check the ring during inflation and give it a couple of taps to help seat it properly. Take pressure up until tire starts to expand and tap ring with rubber mallet all the way round, then increase pressure. Check again at about 20 pound pressure. I've done a lot of these over the years and never a failure, but that said, I'm very critical about cleanliness in the seating area and the condition of the ring.
