I grew up on a dairy farm that was owned by my Dad and Granddad. Houses were about 200' apart. Neither Dad nor Gramps were very mechanical but did repair most equipment. If they couldn't do it Dad's 2 older brothers probably could. I learned a lot from one Uncle in particular. I miss him to this day.

Out of us kids I was by far the most mechanical. I thank God for a Dad that never really got too upset when he came out to use something and I had the carb apart or broke a valve cover bolt or worse, just because I wanted to see how it worked and/or what was inside.

I discovered hot rod type magazines at a pretty young age and read every one I could get my hands on. I learned a lot from those magazines and later a lot of books.

Growing up on a Dairy sure gave you insight into what real work was like although my brother would say I avoided it like the plague. Can't help it if I was smarter than he was. =) While I knew farming was not a career path for me I learned a lot and really value that growing up experience. Truth is if I had known then what I know now I could have literally bought the farm back then and it would still be in the family.
