I believe the owner's manual has the instructions but it has been a while since I looked at it. I do know the cam is marked "Summer" and "Winter". You may have to sand a little to read it.

I change mine to midway between summer and winter position in the fall after the first time my carburetor ices up upon startup. After temperatures start staying below freezing, I move it to the winter position. In the spring, I move it to the center when the temps stay above freezing and to the summer position before the temps reach the 80's or before I drive it for long distances.
