The removal is quite easy as a unit. Swap the clutch, tranny and any other vital bits while the engine is out. If I recall, there isn't anything to support the ransmission without the bellhousing, so it has to come out with the engine. If the front clip comes off, you'll have easy access to the things that will need to be disconnected. The procedure has been discussed on the M37 forum, so that may help with what else you need to have on hand. In another life, I've seen them changed out in a couple of hours but that was in an army field workshop portable building with heat and all the right tools.
