not wired the same. the volt meter has a postive lead and a negative lead. the amp gauge measures the current of the charging system so is wired differently. see the stock wiring diagram and hook it up that way. probably works fine 99% of them always do. I prefer amp gauges over volt meters as they tell me instantly if I have a charging system issue
