My 2001 Dodge 2500 4X4 has had steering issues since I got it and everything i have done to date has helped to some degree so here is a quick progression:

1) Wander/drift
-Replaced worn steering components and got an alignment. Took care of the wander, but now I am noticing that is doesn't self center right, and has increased steering effort.

2) Steering effort/irratic steering when hitting a joint or bridge EWS at speed/ whines when I hit brakes hard.
-replaced power steering pump which improved the brakes and stopped the whine, but did nothing for the irratic steering or the increased effort.

3)Irratic steering/increased effort
-replaced the steering gear bow with a quality NAPA reman box. Seems to have gotten rid of the irratic steering but the effort is marginally improved at best. Another improvement was that the power brakes seem to have more stopping power with less pedal.

Is there a chance that the hydro boost has a problem that interferes with the steering getting full pressure? It looks to me that they are on different circuits though they share the pump. I do not thave a filter in line with the return on the steering box and the hoses appear to be clear from blowing compressed air through.

Maybe I just have a bad pump?
