i believe that you need to get the truck to a full service truck transmission shop and not likely the dealer since the truck is 'old' to them. you will have to have the entire assembly removed and checked. a quality shop will want to rebuild everything and replace whatever is required to get you back to a reliable condition. a good shop will be able to explain what they would want to do to save you money in the long run. not replacing the clutch, pilot bearing,etc. is foolish if you have the tranny out. you are in the 10% of guys using your truck to tow at the upper limits of the trucks rating and accordingly will have things like this happen. it is easy to say, buy a dodge cummins, but the reality is that my boat hauler uses fords exclusively and gets many hundred thousands of miles on his trucks. the hardest part of what you are going through is finding that quality repair shop that will fix it right the first time.
