I have been able to get all of mine out. If you break it off you can not really get it fixed. I have used a lot of penetrating oil and heat from a small torch to get them loose. I have also drilled them out and then chased the threads with a tap. I have yet to destroy anything yet. The worst I did was to drill slightly into the side of the lock which made a fine detent for the new set screw.
Don't do like the priviious owner of my truch. He torched on 3 sides of the lock mechanism then bent along the 4 side to get to the lock. He then repaired the broken latch spring with a set of distributor points then bent things back and brazed it up. I came back and cut out his mess and welded in a piece from a parts door I had.
