My use of this boat is changing. I used to use it for everything (family rec., spring and fall trolling for Kamloop trout, and bass fishing) For bass fishing I used an electric trolling motor with it's own dedicated battery. This was the main reason for the on board charger. Now I have another boat I use exclusively for bass. I won't need the charger so much now, because my engine's charging is perfectly capable of keeping the two batteries charged. I also have an isolator, so I always have a good battery.
The real culprit in this whole issue, it turns out, is the battery. It had failed and was requiring over work by the charger, which caused the problem. I am replacing the two batteries with Optima blue tops.
