The plastic gear has that 23000 gap between it and the distributer base .
The distance from the base to the gear is a hair under .5 of an inch . maybe .490 -.495 , my calipers are a bit worn .
I had to drill my new gear -the hole was in the wrong place .
On the bottom of the stock gear is a little notch . The steel shaft ends about 5 thousand short of this notch .
I do not know if all shafts are the same length .
I have swapped the v8 case into a 6 but the shafts were changed . I do not recall what year of V8 I grabbed for the case.

Off to the parts store - the old gas was sssso sticky that I ended up having a stuck valve and had to pull the head .
