There is a port o\ver #6. It looks like a hex head bolt. It is actually a pipe plug. Remove the plug, and break through the carbon that plugs the hole. Insert a 10" long piece of stiff wire, coat hanger wire works. Turn the crank, and watch for the wire to come all the way up. Maybe rock the engine back and forth, make sure it is right at the top. The timing pointer will now pointing very close to #1 TDC. See what the marks say?

For ultimate accuracy, use a dial indicator on the top of the wire. Make a mark on the pully or flywheel when the dial reads about .o2o before, go past to .020 after, mark that too. TDC is centered between those two marks.
