Replacing park brake button/pawl spring

The button is held to the rod by a small pin. Drive the pin out, remove the button, heat if necessary- you don't want to break the rod. The spring is underneath, in a long cup like tube. BUT, if you pull the rod out the bottom too far, it will be a pita to get it back into the hole in the bottom of the tube. So don't lower the rod any more than necessary to extract the broken spring pieces. Insert new spring, button, and drive in the pin.

I don't know whether it can be done in chassis. The deciding fact would be that the rod must rise enough to access the cross pin. I don't know whether removing one bolt would do it, or not.

Oh well, off to the spring store...
